She then went on to Physical Therapy School at the Mayo Clinic School of health Related Sciences in Rochester, Minnesota where she completed the Certificate Degree in Physical Therapy in 1986 . Joyce came to Knoxville in 1986 and worked at the former St. Mary’s Hospital until 1988 when she and another physical therapist opened their own private practice in Clinton. They owned and operate this thriving practice for 30 years. Special interests includes orthopedic and spine disorders. Also during that time, Joyce pursued a variety of niche skills including Integrative Dry Needling (2017), Rock Tape Certified (2016) and Vestibular Rehabilitation (1997).
Instead of fully retiring, Joyce now works as a PRN / fill in Physical Therapist at Pierce Physical Therapy for Ray Pierce, MSPT
Prior to selling her practice in 2018, Joyce became intrigued with Energy Medicine and started exploring Healing Touch. This is an energy therapy in which practitioners consciously use their hands in a heart-centered and intentional way to support and facilitate physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health. Healing Touch is a biofield (magnetic field around the body) therapy that is an energy-based approach to health and healing. Healing Touch uses the gift of touch to influence the human energy system, specifically the energy field that surrounds the body, and the energy centers that control the flow from the energy field to the physical body. These non-invasive techniques employ the hands to clear, energize, and balance the human and environmental energy fields, thus affecting physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. It is based on a heart-centered, caring relationship in which the practitioner and client come together energetically to facilitate the client's health and healing.
Healing Touch for Animals® caught Joyce’s eye as she is an avid animal lover. After completing the first 4 levels of instruction, Joyce applied for her certification and became an official Healing Touch for Animals Certified Practitioner (HTACP). She has gone on to complete an additional two Advanced Proficiency courses and most recently Bridging Animals to People which brings her training full circle, back to the human population in addition to the animals.
